Hell
House 27
Because I'm such a documentary fan, and because I have secret
aspirations of directing my own someday, there's one thing that
really gets me: When the filmmaker screws up a great idea.
"Hell
House" focuses on the Trinity Christian Church in Dallas.
Every year, they build this fire-and-brimstone haunted house,
wherein they stage live abortions, drunk driving accidents, rapes,
drug-crazed raves, etc., all in an attempt to frighten teens into
finding God. The kids from the Trinity School try out for the
parts, a la community theater, clamoring to play Suicide Girl,
Abortion Girl or maybe even Rapist. Sounds good, no?
No.
Simply
turning your camera on does not a filmmaker make. Was he too lazy
to dig deeper? Or was he just too aware of remaining impartial?
In any case, the POV was nonexistent, and I found it thoroughly
boring.
