Art of Fighting
Wires
In the spirit of disclosure: My husband just released this record here in the U.S. In the spirit of promotion: It won the Australian equivalent of the Grammy for Best Alternative Release in 2001.

There, I feel better.

Art of Fighting possess a seductively singular sound. One foot firmly in slow-rock/low-rock, the other in post-rock. Oh, screw it, it's just rock. And really, it's not hard to imagine it as the soundtrack to a damn good film. These are some moody bastards, and from moment to moment, you might hear glimpses of the Red House Painters, Seam, Shudder to Think, Built to Spill, Radiohead, even Jeff Buckley. In the end, the voice is king, and Ollie Browne's is like none I've heard.

Tim's ear for talent hasn't always been this dead on — a band called C.O.R.N. Corn comes to mind — so this one makes me proud. I bet AoF will be a mainstay in your rotation. That is, if you allow it to be so.
